Every QuickMuze Route, Searchable in One Page

All 96 published QuickMuze routes, grouped by city. Each entry shows the editor’s visitor-experience score, the gate-checked ticket price in Egyptian Pounds, the realistic visit window, and the editor who walked the route most recently. Use the filter to narrow by city and pace; the cards link to the matching topic-hub page for the full route card.

The selection below is the most-opened of our archive. The deeper archive (every route ever published since 2020) is reachable via the topic hubs in the main navigation; the city groupings here are designed for a reader who has already decided which Egyptian city they are visiting and wants to see the working shortlist for it. If you are still planning the trip itself rather than the individual visits, start with our town overviews or with the weekend routes hub for paired itineraries.

The two-hour focused plan: arrive at opening, head straight to the upper-level Tutankhamun wing, see the gold mask, the chariots, the throne and the canopy. Exit via the Grand Staircase. The four-hour version adds the Old Kingdom and Middle Kingdom galleries on the ground floor.

Luxor

East and West Banks

Thirty-one routes across the open-air museum of Egypt. The four below cover both banks.

Karnak — Sunset Hour

9.5
Window
90 minutes before closing
Ticket
From 600 EGP
Walking
~ 1.5 km mostly shaded by columns
Updated
January 2026 (DT)

The undisputed showpiece of Egyptian heritage at the only hour it really works. Enter from the eastern gate, head straight to the Hypostyle Hall, allow forty-five minutes there as the light shifts. Continue to the Sacred Lake for ten minutes, then to the open-air museum at the northern end. Exit before official closing to avoid the rush. If you have a second visit available later in the trip, repeat at opening time the following day; Karnak rewards both ends of the day in different ways and is too large to absorb in a single session.

Valley of the Kings — Pre-Heat Morning

9.1
Window
3 hours, 06:00 start in summer
Ticket
750 EGP + KV62 supplement 400 EGP
Walking
~ 1.2 km on hot stone
Updated
February 2026 (DT)

Three tombs of your choice on the standard ticket. Our current recommendation: Ramses IV (KV2), Merenptah (KV8), Tausert/Setnakht (KV14). KV62 supplement worth it for the original sarcophagus. Start no later than 06:00 in summer; the tombs become unbearable by 09:30.

Ticket
550 + 350 EGP
Walking
~ 2 km combined
Updated
February 2026 (DT)

Two of the best-preserved West Bank temples in one morning. Cross the Nile by car ferry or the road bridge. Start at Hatshepsut at opening, drive to Medinet Habu by 09:30, leave the Colossi of Memnon for a five-minute photo stop on the way back. Skip the Valley of the Kings for this circuit; it deserves its own programme.

Luxor Museum — Air-Conditioned Afternoon

8.9
Window
2 hours after lunch
Ticket
300 EGP
Walking
Inside galleries, full A/C
Updated
February 2026 (DT)

The best-curated medium-sized museum in the country and an excellent place to recover from a morning at Karnak or the West Bank. The Mummification Museum next door is a smaller specialist addition for those interested. Combine with a walk along the New Corniche if the temperature has dropped.

Aswan

The South

Walking
~ 1.5 km along the Corniche
Updated
December 2025 (DT)

Nubian Museum first when the afternoon heat is still uncomfortable outside, then a walk along the Corniche past the Old Cataract Hotel, ending on a felucca for the sunset crossing around the islands. The classic Aswan day, paced for serious heat tolerance.

Alexandria

The Mediterranean

Twelve routes from Alexandria. The two below are the most-opened.

Hanging Church + Surroundings

8.4
Window
2 hours, mornings best
Ticket
Free; Coptic Museum 200 EGP
Walking
~ 800 m flat
Updated
November 2025 (MS)

A short visit if you have already done Coptic Cairo as part of a separate walking loop. The Hanging Church itself is the obvious draw; the wooden screens inside Saints Sergius and Bacchus next door are equally striking and less photographed. Combine with a quick walk around the small fortified area of Babylon.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina + Corniche Walk

4 hours from late morning
Ticket
200 EGP (museums included)
Walking
~ 2.5 km along seafront

Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa, Pompey’s Pillar, and the Roman Amphitheatre in a single tight loop in the centre. A driver helps but is not mandatory if you are comfortable walking in Alexandrian traffic. Combine with a coffee stop at one of the historic cafés on Saad Zaghloul Square.

Additional routes

Less Famous but Still Recommended

Five more routes worth the read if your trip extends beyond the obvious destinations. None of these are flagship sites; all of them reward the trip when you have a free morning between bigger plans.

Saqqara — Step Pyramid Half-Day

8.8
Window
4 hours, 09:00 start
Ticket
From 450 EGP (combined entry)
Walking
~ 1.5 km mostly flat
Updated
December 2025 (AS)

The oldest large-scale stone monument in the world, the experimental ground of Imhotep. The wider necropolis includes the Pyramid of Unas with the earliest Pyramid Texts and the painted mastaba tombs of Kagemni and Mereruka. The reopened site museum next to the entrance is now a worthwhile stop on its own.

Dahshur — Bent Pyramid Half-Day

Ticket
From 200 EGP
Walking
Short flat walks
Updated
January 2026 (AS)

7.9
Window
75 minutes after sundown
Ticket
From 600 EGP
Walking
~ 800 m guided
Updated
February 2026 (DT)

The English-language show usually runs at 19:00 or 19:30 in winter and an hour later in summer. The narration is dated but the lighting of the Hypostyle Hall remains genuinely effective. Verify the night and language at the ticket office during the day; the schedule changes seasonally.

Kom Ombo — Twin Temple Late Afternoon

8.7
Window
90 minutes
Ticket
From 400 EGP
Walking
Short flat circuit
Updated
February 2026 (DT)

The only ancient Egyptian temple with twin sanctuaries arranged in mirror symmetry — Sobek and Horus. The Crocodile Museum next door is included in the ticket and contains around forty mummified crocodiles in conditioned cases. Cruise traffic concentrates between 14:00 and 17:00; we recommend visiting at 17:30 once the boats leave or at 09:00 before they arrive.

Dendera — Temple of Hathor Half-Day from Luxor

9.0
Window
Half-day with driver from Luxor
Ticket
From 450 EGP
Walking
~ 1 km on flat stone
Updated
January 2026 (DT)

One of the best-preserved Ptolemaic temple complexes in the country, with its restored astronomical ceiling reopened to the public after years of careful cleaning. The drive from Luxor takes around 75 minutes each way on the desert road. Combine with Abydos for a full-day private-car itinerary if you have the day.

Luxor Temple at Night

8.5
Window
90 minutes after dinner
Ticket

Walking
~ 800 m through the complex
Updated
December 2025 (DT)

Open until 21:00. The Avenue of Sphinxes between Luxor Temple and Karnak is now illuminated and walkable, which makes the evening visit one of the better post-dinner options anywhere in Egypt. Combine with a walk back to the Corniche cafés.

Note on scores

How QuickMuze Scores Routes

Every route carries a single number between 1.0 and 10.0. It is the editor’s working judgement, not a precise measurement. The number accounts for the depth of the heritage content, the practical visit experience, the value relative to the ticket price, and how well the route holds together as a single visit. Scores are revisited every twelve months. A 7 means a competent visit worth two or three hours; a 9 means a destination of national importance. We never round upwards to flatter a site, and we will not score a popular place down for being popular.
